NATURE OF WORK / SUMMARY
This is a non-exempt position that performs a variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative work in keeping official records and provides administrative support to the fire command staff, while exercising initiative, sound judgment, and discretion in the performance of duties.

Works under the close supervision of the Fire Chief.  Exercises supervision in the completion of EMS and Fire documentation. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Answers and operates central telephone system and routes callers or provides information as required.  
  • Operates radios as needed and assists in radio communications when required.
  • Receives the public and answers questions; responds to inquiries from employees, citizens and others and refers, when necessary, to appropriate staff members.
  • Serves as cashier including receipt of payments and various other payments.
  • Assists in the procurement of department materials and supplies by providing statistical data.
  • Operates office equipment as required.
  • Receives incoming mail, processes outgoing mail.
  • Composes, types and edits correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material requiring judgment as to content, accuracy, familiarity with technical terminology and completeness.
  • Prepares records such as notices, minute, and resolutions.
  • Screens incoming calls and refers to appropriate staff for action; assembles relevant attachments or notes for instruction or disposition.
  • Schedules appointments and performs other administrative and clerical duties.
  • Inputs data to standard office and department forms and software.
  • Maintains updated and accurate emergency contact lists.
  • Develops or compiles documents, correspondence, and materials including all programmatic reports required for reimbursement of expenses related to federal, state, and other government grants or declarations.
  • Manages EMS billing and collection services.
  • Practices continuous learning through individual study, classroom training, seminars, and conferences. 
  • Performs related work as required. 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • High school diploma or equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, filing, accounting, and bookkeeping.
  • Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing; working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Skill in operation of tools and equipment for this position. 
  • Ability to perform Cashier duties accurately; ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Working knowledge of two-way radio communications equipment. 
  • Thorough knowledge of department operations and organization. 
  • Ability to maintain records, to assemble and organize data and to prepare reports from such records. 
  • Ability to make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to learn and use specialized language and terms. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform independently. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Ability to deal with public relations problems courteously and tactfully. 
  • Thorough knowledge of all requirements of HIPPA. 
  • Ability to balance multiple deadlines and assignments effectively.

  • May be required to report to work to serve customers during emergency conditions.

SAFETY SENSITIVE

Administrative Assistant Cushing Fire Department is a designated safety sensitive position under 63 O.S. § 427.8 et seq.   

MECHANIC

The City of Cushing is now accepting applications for a Mechanic to work at the Fleet Maintenance.

The successful candidate will be able to perform preventive maintenance for all vehicles and mechanical equipment as assigned. They can operate various diagnostic instruments and various hand, electric, and air-driven tools and be able to change and repair tires and tubes as well as balance tires. They also should be able to repair brake, engine, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, air exhaust, axle assemblies, and related systems.  In addition, the successful candidate will be able to maintain records and prepare reports and other specialized maintenance records of equipment and mechanical equipment.

Senior Citizen Bus Driver- Part Time


The Senior Citizen Center is currently taking applications for a part-time year-round Bus/Van Driver.  Applicants must be able to work Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  We are     looking for someone that enjoys working with seniors who is dependable, caring, and outgoing.   The required education is a high school degree or GED equivalent.  Applicants must possess a valid State Driver’s license and a good driving record. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Drive the bus/van to provide essential transportation needs to qualified elderly citizens.
  • Assist passengers with getting on and off the bus/van.
  • Assist passengers with packages and groceries (to and on the bus, and to their front door)
  • Assists passengers with paying bills.   
  • Maintain the appearance of the van/bus including vacuuming and washing as needed. 
  • Ensure that proper maintenance including scheduled maintenance is performed by the Service Center. 
  • Maintain two-way radio contact with Senior Citizens Center, coordinate passenger trips and maintain appropriate vehicle and passenger logs.
  • Help at the Center when not needed in a driving capacity, i.e., perform small maintenance duties, changing light bulbs and air filters as needed, etc. or other tasks requested by director.

AQUATIC CENTER LIFEGUARD

LIFEGUARD - PART-TIME/SEASONAL POSITION

The Cushing Aquatic Center is currently taking applications for lifeguard positions. Lifeguards must be at least 16 years of age.

Communications Specialist/Detention Officer


The Cushing Police Department is accepting applications for the Communication/Detention Officer position. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have no criminal background, and possess a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license.

Cushing is a diverse community of approximately 7,853 ideally situated less than 1 hour from Oklahoma City and Tulsa. We are also within 30 minutes of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. In 2013 Cushing Police and Cushing Fire moved into a new multimillion-dollar public safety center.

FIREFIGHTER

The City of Cushing, Oklahoma Fire Department is currently seeking highly motivated men and women who are passionate about serving the public and delivering the highest level of professional service as a firefighter. The Cushing Fire Department is a progressive and dynamic municipal department located in Payne County, Oklahoma. The firefighter position is a non-standard, rotating work, shift schedule (nine 24-hour shifts in a 27-day work period, 24 hours on-duty and 48 hours off with on-call expectations), requiring weekend and holiday work. It is the goal of the Cushing Fire Department and the community to provide ALS care to the citizens it serves. Preference will be given to applicants who possess a National Registry and/or State of Oklahoma paramedic license.

Journeyman Lineman

The City of Cushing is now accepting applications for a Journeyman Lineman to work under the supervision of the Electric Superintendent and Line Supervisor. 

Applicant must be skilled in the construction and maintenance of high voltage and low voltage electric lines, overhead and underground including installing and removal of electric poles, transformers, insulators, and associated equipment, etc. See Job Description. 

Must have working knowledge of methods, materials, and tools used in the electrical field; working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; Considerable knowledge of the principles of electrical theory as applied to electrical circuits and wiring diagrams and the ability to apply this knowledge to working situations.
