Industrial Coordinator

Full time

The Industrial Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the GFL and external resources to develop solutions for area business that will enhance their capabilities and improve their effectiveness, performance and profitability from both short-term and long-term perspectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Regional Manager to place employees on the right projects
  • Source materials and equipment for projects with the Project Managers
  • Coordinate spill responses and manage them throughout with the Project Manager
  • Coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment and information to assist the team execute projects efficiently
  • Use knowledge of best work practices and procedures to develop project execution strategy and identify task constraints
  • Liaise with clients to identify and define requirements, scope and objectives
  • Assign tasks to internal teams and assist with schedule management
  • Make sure that client’s needs are met as projects evolve
  • Help prepare and update job schedules
  • Prepare or communicate material requisitions ensuring the accuracy and specifications
  • Monitor project progress and handle any issues that arise
  • Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants
  • Work with the Project Manager to execute needed changes to the existing plans
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports as needed
  • Ensure standards and requirements are met through conducting quality checks
  • Make new contacts daily and nurture existing contacts
  • Distribute the line up to the management team nightly for the next work day
  • Coordinate with the site training personnel on new hires and schedule onboarding
  • Tasks assigned in addition to this list as directed by the regional manager for the location

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; use hands and fingers, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The overnight travel for this position is up to 40%.


Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally working in outside weather conditions and is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The performance of this position may require exposure to the shop areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment.

Vacuum Truck Driver

Full time

The Vacuum Truck Operator will work with the  Vacuum Truck Services team to provide exceptional service to our clients. Services provided include (but are not limited to): hydro excavating, confined space entry, spill cleanup, line flushing, power washing, water hauling, and loading and hauling of various fluids/ material. The chosen individual will perform this diverse range of activities with a focus on safety, professionalism and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:
Safely operate vacuum equipment in an industrial setting
• Follow company policies and procedures as well as various on-site Requirements:
• Provide exceptional service to all clients and professionally represent GFL
• Complete daily equipment pre-trips and driver logs required for NSC compliance
• Maintain detailed and accurate company documentation to accompany work performed
• Demonstrate a commitment to environmental compliance
• Participate in safety programs such as safety meetings, near miss reporting and job hazard assessments
• Work independently while managing time and productivity and communicate effectively


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
• Vaild Commercial Driver's Licenese
• 2 years Industrial vacuum truck and/or hydro-excavating experience preferably with a combo unit
• Exceptional customer service and communication skills
• Safety-focused attitude with experience working in an industrial setting
• Knowledge to perform minor maintenance on units to maintain efficient operation
• Possesses cleanliness and organizational skills
• Must be in good health and physical condition to perform duties assigned
• Willing to accept after hour calls when necessary
• Some short-term travel and overnight may be required.
• Valid safety tickets such as First Aid/CPR, Construction Safety Training (CSTS), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and H2S Alive are considered an asset


Hazmat Technician

Full time

As a key member of GFL’s HAZMAT Emergency Response Team, the HAZMAT Technician will provide a high level of technical expertise to emergency activations involving dangerous goods. The Technician will supplement our current team to ensure immediate response is provided to all emergency response calls, 24 hours per day and 365 days per year. The person will be able to complete responses in an efficient manner while upholding GFL’s high standards of safety and quality of service.  The position requires exceptional skills in safety, planning, communication, organizing and time management.

Key Responsibilities:
• Respond at a moment’s notice to spills including responding to rail, road, and fixed facilities.
• Perform chemical transloading from one means of containment to another. May include tankcars, tank trucks, fixed facility tanks, or other small means of containment.
• Perform chemical neutralization and decontamination as required.
• Assist with organizing all resources required in both an response situations and in preparation for potential response situations, including personnel, equipment and documentation
• Ensure all emergency response equipment is operationally ready including maintaining, upgrading and servicing our ER equipment and customer’s equipment.
• Ensure all relevant information and documentation is gathered and maintained when providing emergency services
• Lead safety in all aspects of emergency response, including following GFL procedures, completing safety documentation, and upholding GFL’s high level of safety.
• Set up and participate in live training events to ensure competency of personnel
• Willing to participate in specialized scheduled projects as required

Requirements:
•Physically fit and able to wear chemical protective clothing and respiratory protection from time to time as required.
• Vaild Driver's License
• Experience in a position relating to hazardous materials emergency response would be considered an asset

• Understanding of vacuum truck and power wash equipment

• Advanced training including but not limited to: HAZMAT Technician, Tankcar Specialist, Tanktruck Specialist, ICS, Confined Space Entry, etc. would be considered an asset

Project Manager - Industrial (Sign-On Bonus or Relocation Assistance!)

Full time

The Industrial Project Manager will be responsible for completing projects by scheduling materials, equipment, and personnel; monitoring progress, enforcing code and safety regulations; leading staff and sub-contractors.

Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure all GFL ENVIRONMENTAL safety policies and procedures, as well as Provincial/State/Federal Acts are followed.
• Be cognizant of and adhere to any site-specific safety requirements.
• Plan and partake in all safety related meetings, including daily tail gates, last minute risk assessment, etc.
• Coordinate and communicate effectively with Safety Department.
• Coordinate and oversee all site crew including operators, laborers, flaggers, and subcontractors.
• Coordinate and oversee all third-party vendors coming on to site.
• Arrive on site in timely manner
• Inform Operations Superintendent of emergency situations as per protocol.
• Coordinates all activities, equipment, and flat moves with Superintendent
• Ensure that all purchases or orders have a Purchase Order (PO)
• Enter all costs (including estimates) into maestro* daily.
• Enter all labor and equipment hours into maestro* daily.
• Report daily tonnage of contaminated soil and or backfill coming in and out of the site.
• Ensure pre-operational checks on equipment and supplies are being conducted.
• Ensure equipment operators are keeping equipment clean, lubricated, and fueled and general site housekeeping is being maintained.
• Ensure safety fences/markings are all in place.
• Notify Operations Manager of any required repair work to be done.
• Liaise with the Project and Operations Managers to ensure work is being carried out according to the scope of work and bid or client PO.
• Drive a crew truck to and from site as required.
• Pick up crew at the shop and transport the crew to site.
• Operate equipment as required.
• Always keep and maintain all spill equipment in good working condition.
• Monthly inventory of supplies and equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Previous 5+ years of experience in environmental remediation, construction projects or relevant industry.
• Proven ability to assume leadership role to guide workers through completion of projects.
• Familiarity with Company safety policies and legal guidelines of the field.
• Superior communication skills, with ability to motivate and coach assigned employees.
• Remote role with ~20% travel
