In 1996, The Right Path Riding Academy began providing therapeutic horsemanship services to the disabled and others facing challenges in Oklahoma. Today, we continue to seek excellence (delivering the highest quality service and outstanding results), safety (reducing the risk of danger, injury, or loss to ourselves and those around us), integrity (being honest and transparent in operation, finances, and
services), and empowerment (liberating others to use their own power) as the values that drive our programs. Furthermore, we are privileged to do so at no cost to the participant through the resources others have entrusted to us.
William's Walk Therapeutic Riding and Cart Driving allows those with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, multiple sclerosis, Rett syndrome, autism, blindness, speech impairments, and many other
physical or developmental disabilities the opportunity to interact with horses. Special education classrooms from Cushing, Bristow, Agra, Drumright, Depew, and Kellyville attend classes during the school year.
We have two schools on our waiting list hoping to join in the fall of 2022. Additionally, adults and children are brought by their families for services. This summer nineteen participants are attending a short
horsemanship lesson each week in June and July.
Hooves on the Ground: Therapeutic Horsemanship for Veterans and First Responders is a restorative experience. The innate qualities of the horse create a unique partner in healing both physically and
emotionally by developing a strong sense of accomplishment, reduced anxiety, and a trusting relationship with their horse and mentors. Eight men and women participated in spring 2022. Three of those
participants will compete in Heroes on Horses at the National Snaffle Bit World Show in Tulsa in August.
Mini Adventures take the therapeutic benefit of our miniature horses to those who are unable to come to the ranch. We partner with Make a Wish and visit hospitals, including OU Children's Hospital. In addition, visits to schools, nursing homes, and community events bring joy and comfort and reduce stress in lives otherwise confined.
Horse Tales Literacy Project combines the wonder of live horses with Walter Farley's classic children's books and horsemanship to create a positive, exciting experience for young children, inspiring the love of
books and reading. The project begins in January when our horses visit the classroom to present the children with a book of their own. Teachers receive a curriculum based on the books to build literacy
skills. In May, the class visits the ranch to read to our horses and participate in activities that teach horsemanship. In 2022 we added five additional Title I school districts to the three from 2021. Three
hundred thirty-six first-grade students were visited in their classroom by our horses then traveled to our ranch for a fun-filled day at the ranch resulting in improved literacy skills as they desired to read to the
horses.
Trailblazers Youth Enhancement offers students aged 11 - 16 the opportunity to learn horsemanship, character lessons, and life skills to reduce the risk of behaviors associated with failure to complete their
education. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this program has been on hold. We hope to redesign the program and begin offering this service again in 2023.
