PRESS RELEASE: GREAT SOUTHERN FLAMELESS AWARDED COMMERCIAL AGREEMENT WITH SOUTHERN ROCK ENERGY PARTNERS
Great Southern Flameless will design and supply furnaces and process heating units
July 6, 2023, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma ‐‐ Great Southern Flameless (GSF) announced today it has been awarded a commercial agreement with Southern Rock Energy Partners to design and supply furnaces and process heating units for a first‐of‐its‐kind crude refinery in Cushing, Oklahoma.
While most refineries consume natural gas, refining off‐gases, and ambient air in the furnaces and process heating units, this proposed facility would instead combine pure oxygen with "blue" hydrogen (produced from refining off‐gases) and "green" hydrogen (from electrolysis), with water, oxygen, and argon being the primary waste stream.
By consuming 100% hydrogen and oxygen as a fuel source in the furnaces and process heating units, Southern Rock Energy's proposed 250,000 bpd crude refinery complex will reduce and eliminate 95% of greenhouse gas emissions (methane, carbon monoxide and dioxides, and nitrogen and sulfur oxides) utilizing GSF Cool Combustion Technology while still producing approximately 91.25 million barrels or 3.8325 billion gallons annually of cleaner transportation fuels including gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel from crudes sourced domestically from the Anadarko, Denver‐Julesburg, Permian, and Bakken Basins.
About Great Southern Flameless
Great Southern Flameless is an industry leader in flameless combustion and cool combustion technology. For over 10 years, a GSF heater has operated at the CVRE Refinery in Coffeyville, Kansas. This heater has demonstrated NOx emissions in the 3‐5 ppmvd range without an SCR as continuously measured by CEMS during the 10+ years of crude service operation firing refinery fuel gas. The GSF cool combustion technology is proven and truly a quantum advance in fired heater design and performance. Great Southern Flameless is a wholly owned Great Southern Technologies (GST) company, a subsidiary of Integrated Service Company LLC (InServ), located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. GST is a technology driven company and an industry leader in the design, manufacturing, and optimization of conventional direct fired heaters.
